ADULT DRAMA WORKSHOPS
Role Play and Forum Theatre
ROLE PLAY
Role play can be used for training and assessment as a powerful tool to develop management, communication and interpersonal skills. It is an excellent way for delegates to develop and test out skills in a safe training environment which they can put into place at work.
We can supply professional actors to create realistic scenarios to replicate your working environment and convincingly play a wide range of characters. After liaising with you to discover your needs we can develop and produce scripts and scenarios. Our role players can learn briefs in advance or improvise to work with the issues that are raised on the day, or a combination of the two.
You can have your group watch our actor’s role playing or your delegates can be involved. The beauty is that unless it is an assessment situation, you don’t just get one shot at it, you can pause to get help from the rest of the group, rewind and rerun the scenario as many times as you need to in order to get right.
Our actors are experienced in giving sensitive and constructive feedback on delegate’s behaviour and how that behaviour made them feel. We can supply one role player for one day or several role players per day for as long as you need them.
FORUM THEATRE
Forum theatre was created by the innovative and influential practitioner Augusto Boal as part of his “Theatre of the Oppressed.” Originally the technique was developed by Boal as a tool for political change but since then it has been widely adapted and used for training and education.
Led by an experienced facilitator, our actors will show a scene to your group, illustrating a relevant issue. The facilitator asks the group for their response to the scene. We then show the scene again and either the group can stop the scene when they see behaviour or practises that they don’t agree with or the actors can stop and ask advice of the group. The facilitator then asks the group for suggestions as to how the actors can approach the situation in a different way. Various suggestions from the group are then tried out by the actors to see their effectiveness until the best solution has been identified and illustrated.
Actors are a great tool to portray realistic behaviours and emotions as appropriate to the situation and this way of working breaks down barriers between the groups and the situation – it puts them in the action. Forum theatre can demonstrate many things, such as how one person’s actions and behaviour can radically affect the behaviour of others.
Forum Theatre is a great tool to enable groups to try out different courses of actions in a safe environment which they can then apply to their own working practise or everyday lives.
