Durham University is offering a degree course module on Harry Potter. Unsurprisingly the module has proved very popular. It will feature as part of Durham’s BA degree in Educational Studies, focusing on the novels’ context within wider social and cultural issues.
Themes explored will include prejudice and intolerance in the classroom, bullying, good citizenship and friendship and solidarity. This all sounds fantastic to us here at Act on Info Theatre in Education Company. We have long believed in using popular cultural references to discuss and examine our social behaviour and tackle tricky subjects such as bullying. Also, using fictional characters to explore such emotive issues gives a safer platform for discussion. And so we applaud you Durham University. Act on Info believe that bullying, peer pressure and citizenship are all important subjects and we have Drama Workshops for schools covering all these topics and more. Whatever the key stage, subject or group size we have something for you. From Play in a Day to Assemblies we tackle difficult subjects in a non-threatening, interactive and fun way. Have a look round our web site for more details or make a quick enquiry (see right).
